According to Ofcom, "7.1 million people now listen to podcasts on a weekly basis". With football being the top sport within the UK, it is no surprise that football podcasts are now in an extremely high demand, especially during the Coronavirus pandemic.
At the time of writing, I Had Trials Once, have produced over 50 podcasts at an extremely high standard with a range of footballers across the UK. The unique selling point about this podcast is due to their range of footballers they have on their show. From elite level Premier League footballers such as former Southampton striker Charlie Austin and ex Chelsea striker Carlton Cole, to Non-League footballers such as Chester midfielder Gary Stopforth. If you love football at any level, you will love the 'I Had Trials Once' podcast.
The 'I Had Trials Once' podcast is gaining traction and increasing their listening figures on a daily basis. This is due to the pair's excellent standard of interviewing in their own unique way. The podcast feels more like friends chatting in a pub- much different than the interviews you usually see at high end sports corporations such as Sky Sports or BT Sport. Listeners are given a unique insight into the life of a footballer at all levels, with many stories being included that you would never hear within the mainstream media.
The two producers of the podcast are current Altrincham striker Jordan Hulme (@JHulme1) and former professional footballer Gareth Seddon (@GazSeddon). Jordan Hulme started off his career at Ramsbottom before moving to Salford City. Salford City are owned by the 'Class of 92'. For those who are unfamiliar with the 'Class of 92', these are former Manchester United footballers: Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and David Beckham.
After an extremely successful spell as a semi professional, Hulme left the Salford City project, only three days after being given a professional contract (Hulme discusses this within the Podcast). Hulme has since moved on to Conference North side Altrincham and managed to get on the scoresheet on 14 occasions last season, until it's premature end due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Gareth Seddon is a former professional footballer. His most successful stints were at Bury and Fleetwood, even though he did feature for a number of clubs with the Football League and throughout the Non-League. Seddon is now working as a football agent for the Base Soccer Agency.
Below the The Footy Gang have picked their favourite 'I Had Trials Once' podcast. This podcast is with current West Bromwich Albion striker Charlie Austin. Austin, delves into his footballing journey from how he progressed from Non-League football all the way to the Premier League.
