Today, we will be discussing the excellent Bench'd Football Podcast.
If you are a fan of football and not only like to hear the latest football news but also love good punditry, then Bench’d is the Podcast and YouTube channel that you need to tune into. Bench’d is full of debates, match and player analysis, opinions, reviews and just general points of view. The Bench’d is made up of three lifelong friends who all have a passion for football. Their interest may start with the English Football League but extends to Ligue 1, La Liga, Bundesliga and the Serie A.
Bench’d originated from three mates from Wolverhampton who’ve known each other since secondary school who love to talk about the beautiful game. Even though their opinions are controversial at times our heat debates are the root to great content.
The Bench’d pundit panel are Ethan Cunnison, a Man Utd fan who possesses a huge knowledge of the game on and off the field. He has a keen eye on the Transfer market and a talent for player and match analysis. George Bennett, a Liverpool fan who also has a wide knowledge of the game especially the history of football. Last but not least, we have Alex King AKA Kingy, another Manchester United fan. Alex King is the passionate one who enjoys endless debates and has a keen eye for football statistics.
The Bench'd YouTube channel was set up in January 2020 as a way for us to express our opinions no matter how controversial, about our teams and the wider football landscape. We uploaded our first podcast on the 21st of January where the team covered the Premier League season so far and created a joint eleven of Liverpool and Manchester United players for that upcoming fixture.
Throughout our time recording the podcast and releasing it onto YouTube, we’ve covered an extensive range of topics and news in the world of football; such as the Premier League team of the decade, how Coronavirus might affect football and how the introduction of Timo Werner to a Chelsea might change their style of play. Most recently following Leeds promotion to the Premier League, we discussed their prospects for their first season in topflight football in 16 Years and whether they will survive.
We have produced 21 episodes to date. Initially, we produced a standard Podcast with sound only recordings but quickly introduced video recordings. Following the Coronavirus pandemic, like many others, we moved over to Zoom for our episodes and each week we improve the scale of production, introducing more graphic visuals and have grown from a purely audio Podcast to a more visually engaging production.
One podcast episode in particular enjoyed higher levels of interest and engagement from our growing fan base. It was a discussion topic about Newcastle United potentially being bought by the Saudi royal family and how this might affect the future of football.
Manchester United and Liverpool fans come together to talk about how football always creates interesting and high energy atmospheres due to the obvious rivalry between the two clubs. During these occasions, the Bench’d team also record some high energy debates adding to the vibrancy of our Podcasts. Even though supporting two top clubs in English football we also have an opinion on club’s top to bottom of the Premier league.
In the future we aim to visit more stadiums both in the UK and abroad, also, hoping to work with different football clubs, speaking to coaches, scouts, managers, players and football journalists. We aim in the future to not just be a YouTube channel to be a brand. Meaning that the more subscribers and followers Bench’d gets the bigger and better the quality the content will be.
At the time of writing, we currently have 78 subscribers and 2,200 views on all of our podcasts as we continue to build our following. We aim to introduce guests to our episodes. This will include friends, fans and people working in the footballing industry such as coaches’ former players and, who can give an insight into the world of football and share stories about their life and career.
Bench’d represents the topics and endless debates football fans have in the stadiums, schools, at work and on social media. If you want to watch or listen to heated debates, interesting discussions and the perspectives of young and diverse football pundits, then Bench’d is the podcast for you.
While Bench’d has only been around for 7 months, we are looking forward to what the future might bring for our podcast. We encourage you to tune in, subscribe and comment on what you want to see in the future. Additionally, share feedback as we are always keen to improve our output.
